Focusing on the elaboration of the past and insisting on remembering and memory are not necessarily vital steps to achieve a peaceful coexistence after a conflict but, on the contrary, they can even be detrimental to conflict resolution and reconciliation. Seeking peace might have priority over seeking justice to avoid the dangers connected with the elaboration of memories. For this reason, at times, even oblivion or partial forgetfulness might be preferable options. Specific cases of communities recently involved in post-conflict processes have been taken into considerations, but no space has been given here to the positive effects of memory: many pages have already been dedicated to them.
