This text was born out of a personal curiosity and developed through research that involved different interlocutors along the way, each of whom brought some original element into the work and contributed to the final result. This is an open narrative to which other voices could be added, because the topic addressed, the table designed by Carlo Scarpa for Iuav University, still presents unknown aspects, the knowledge of which could contribute to a better understanding of the history of an object apparently far removed from the complexity of forms and relations between materials that characterise Scarpa's work, yet still able today to respond to the various and changing demands of its many users, resulting in its constant presence in the spaces of the Venetian university for over 50 years.
