Roots tourism is a journey that revives and consolidates in those who make it the sense of belonging to a place and to a community of origin of one's own or one's family. The phenomenon of roots tourism represents a significant social manifestation with great potential for development, particularly in national contexts such as Italy, with about eighty million people of Italian origin estimated to be living now abroad, and tens of millions more who migrated to different areas within the national territory. This form of tourism, profoundly linked to the recovery of local identities, to the preservation of historical memory and to the emotional experience of travel, goes beyond the traditional dynamics of tourism, fostering deep cultural and emotional connections between communities of origin and their descendants in the diaspora.
