Bruno Pélassy died in 2002 as a result of AIDS at thirty-six years of age, but his legacy is still very much alive among the new generation of young artists. This monograph brings together Pélassy's personal archives, works, and exhibition installation views, and includes three new texts by critics Marie Canet and Laura Cottingham and editor Baptiste Pinteaux as well as a timeline of his life. Bruno Pélassy was born in 1966 in Vientiane, Laos, and spent his youth and adulthood between Paris and Nice. He moved among a circle of artists who had studied at the Villa Arson school and art center in Nice, and trained in textile and jewelry design. He worked for Swarovski early in his career. His oeuvre, at once fragile and flamboyant, encompasses crafted jewelry, cheap mechanical bugs, experimental video collage, elaborate sewn textiles, and much, much more, all of it celebrating an aesthetic of the marvelous and the precarious. Copublished by Mousse Publishing, Villa Arson, Haus am Waldsee, Air de Paris, and the Estate of Bruno Pélassy Texts by Marie Canet, Laura Cottingham, and Baptiste Pinteaux.
