"Ester Fleckner: I navigate in collisions" is a monograph presenting selected works from the first ten years of the artist's career, 2013 to 2023. Fleckner employs abstraction to challenge the recognizable, the finished, and the categorized. Integrating queer and trans perspectives, their work addresses language, desire, and spheres of relation in open-ended and poetic ways. Fleckner's practice centers on woodcut printing-a simple, slow, physical technique that allows for differences, errors, and a loss of control-but also extends to cast concrete sculptures, text works, and drawings. This publication includes new text contributions by the art historian Mathias Danbolt and the curator and art historian Jenny Graser, and a conversation between Fleckner and the scholar and curator Lex Morgan Lancaster.
