The volume provides a preliminary report of the results of the last campaigns of excavation at Tell Afis in Northwestern Syria in the years 2005-2010. This new important evidence of the long history of occupation of the site is presented in five sections, plus a general introduction. In Area A on the acropolis (Section 1) the temple of different levels from Iron Age I to II-III was brought to light with its relevant materials along with its sacred precinct including platform J and the annex H. In area E on the western slope of the tell (Section 2) investigations concentrated on the Late and Early Bronze Age phases. Major results were obtained in area E4b South where most of the Late Bronze II Residency layout was exposed and nine cuneiform tablets including six administrative texts and three Hittite letters were discovered along with remarkable bronze objects. In area E3 a long sequence of superimposed levels of domestic and working units has been retrieved now spanning the period from the EB III to the beginning of the Middle Bronze Age. In area N on the eastern slope (Section 3) the fortification walls of the Middle and Late Bronze phases were investigated gaining information on the limit of the acropolis to the east in these periods. Some graves of the Middle to Late Bronze period, of which a detailed paleobiological study has been carried out, and traces of Iron Age I domestic occupation are also to be mentioned in-depth studies on paleozoology and textile production from different areas are included in final Section 4.
