In all her books, Maria Soresina has always guided us to see things from a different and unconventional perspective. She also does this in this new essay on Dante, in which she reveals his coura- geous spiritual message of the path that leads to happi-ness and freedom. This has its foundation in the autonomy of conscience whereby he comes to 'see' God without any ecclesiastical inter- mediation. His courageous spiritual and political message has rarely been understood and too often misrepresented. Maria Soresina speaks of an 'original sin' committed by his sons and by the first inter- preters, who had only one goal, which was not so much to explain the poem as to demonstrate its perfect orthodoxy and remove any suspicion of heresy in an era of fierce persecution. Over the cen- turies, their authoritative voices have become a model for the in- terpretation of Dante, but the time is now ripe to reveal new insights.
