Jacopo Tintoretto (1518-1594) is undoubtedly one of the painters of the pastwho has most inspired writers and scholars: Pietro Aretino, Jean-Paul Sartre,André Malraux, Henry James, John Ruskin and Rafael Alberti, to name buta few, have all testified in their writings to the wonder of Tintoretto's works,which are inextricably linked to a timeless Venice.In this volume, the Spanish painter Jorge R. Pombo (Barcelona, 1973) plumbsthe pictorial language of the Venetian master in an engaging and accessiblemanner, explaining how Tintoretto marked a schism in the evolution ofRenaissance painting.Pombo enables us to view Tintoretto's work through the complex and acutegaze of a contemporary artist.
