-New 2022 edition of the Twentieth Century's dystopian masterpiece- Nineteen Eighty-Four (1949) is a profound anti-utopian novel that examines the dangers of totalitarian rule. The book is set in 1984 in Oceania, one of three perpetually warring totalitarian states (the other two are Eurasia and Eastasia). Oceania is governed by the all-controlling Party, which has brainwashed the population into unthinking obedience to its leader, Big Brother. The novella follows the life of Winston Smith, a low ranking member of the Party, who is frustrated by the omnipresent eyes of the party, and its ominous ruler Big Brother. George Orwell, pseudonym of Eric Arthur Blair (1903-1950), is one of England's most famous writers and social commentators. He is the author of the classic political satire Animal Farm and the dystopian masterpiece Nineteen Eighty-Four, his last novel.
