-English original first edition- Twilight in Italy was D. H. Lawrence's first book of travel essays, recounting trips he had made in Bavaria, Austria, Switzerland and northern Italy around Lake Garda in 1912-13, but published later (1916) after much revision. It contains some of his finest descriptive prose, often interspersed with passages of schematically dualist philosophical preaching. The book captures Lawrence's intuitive response to the scenery and local cultures of the Alps and of one corner of Italian rural life, following his elopement in 1912 with Frieda Weekley, when his first enthusiastic encounters with Italy had enhanced his sense of release into a new life. David Herbert Lawrence (1885-1930) was an English writer and poet. His collected works represent, among other things, an extended reflection upon the dehumanising effects of modernity and industrialisation. Lawrence's writing explores issues such as sexuality, emotional health, vitality, spontaneity, and instinct. His novels include Sons and Lovers, The Rainbow, Women in Love, and Lady Chatterley's Lover.
