Jean Auguste Dominique Ingres dedicated his long life to the cult of beauty. Each of his works of art emphasised his neoclassical training, his love for drawing, his attention to balance, harmony, and care for details. Although Ingres sees Raphael as his master, the former's painting nonetheless enriches the latter's calmness with pathos. Even though Ingres expected glory and fame from his historical paintings, he was mainly a great portraitist. He made each of his characters unique and unforgettable thanks to his psychological analyses. A double-faced artist, he simultaneously respected the heritage of the past and looked into the future by accepting new.
